GLT stands for Green Leaf Threshing. It is basically used for threshing of tobacco and divides it into lamina and stem which is sent for further action to primary manufacturing department plant receives tobacco from Leaf Logistic Office and takes tobacco on the tipping tables and cuts it into pieces. Tobacco goes through conditioning cylinder and gets moisture from 15% to 15%, after that process tobacco is shifted to conveyors where scrap is filtered and then it is passed through conditioning cylinder and gets moisture of 17% to 18% and then leaf is separated into stem and lamina.
After this process lamina is packed into bales, while stem is packed in gunny bags, net weights are 110 kg and 36 kg respectively. At this stage tobacco is called “Prized leaf” and bales are stacked into 23-25 different prized leaf store, Situated inside and outside factory. The function of PLS is to receive tobacco from GLT plant & further provide tobacco to Akora Khattak factory through C-5 godown, to Jhelum factory & also make some exports (in case of requisition) of prized leaf.
